Spellcasting is a creative resource that is available to anyone, regardless of religion, background, or experience level. It’s a practical tool for manifesting deep changes in one’s life, and an art that works best when personalized with one’s own intuition and meaning-making. Best of all, you don’t need fancy tools or complicated recipes to do it. Tonight, we’ll be learning the basics of crafting our own spells using simple objects and ingredients you most likely already have in your home — or can easily find in your yard or local park.
We’ll have a special focus on the 7 elements: Air, Fire, Water, and Earth, plus the spirits of Below, Above, and the Center. We’ll also discuss important ways to ready oneself for magickal workings, as well as how to incorporate these practices into everyday, modern living. You are encouraged to come prepared with your own specific visions you’d like to have realized, though if you’d rather not share with the group, that’s completely fine, too. The circle we’ll form for the evening will be positive, welcoming, and confidential. You’ll come away with enough knowledge to craft your own spells, whether you are just beginning your journey, or furthering your current practice.
Please bring a candle and holder, as well as any altar objects you like. Please also bring a cushion, pillow, or fabric, as we will be sitting on the floor (chairs will be available for those who need). Note-taking is welcome. This workshop is open to men and women, novices and advanced practitioners alike.
Pam Grossman is an independent curator and lifelong student of magickal practice and history. An initiate in the wise woman tradition, she is currently apprenticing with green witch Robin Rose Bennett. She is the creator of Phantasmaphile, a blog which specializes in art and culture with an esoteric or fantastical bent, and Associate Editor of Abraxas Journal.
