In this class, instructor Sorceress Cagliastro will teach us to make effigy dolls. Effigy Dolls have historically been used for a variety of reasons, including (but not limited t0) religious purposes, honoring the deceased, curing illness, breaking a hex one believes has been placed on them, locating the missing, sending messages remotely, and using self effigy to widen the opportunity in ones own life.

Effigy Dolls are built from a combination of materials the student brings supplemented by materials provided by the instructor. it is recommended that students contact the instructor before class (you can contact her at pdcagliastro [at] mac.com); she will suggest which materials to bring. Each individual leaves with a doll ready for use.

Sorceress Cagliastro has a background as a teacher, author, and forensic reconstructionist. She worked as a trade embalmer and spent many years of work at the office of the Chief Medical Examiner. She currently lives in Brooklyn with her husband, daughter, and two dogs.
